Library At a Glance



LIBRARY AND RESOURCE CENTRE Library is the nerve-center and the heart of the Vidyalaya and plays a vital role in supporting, teaching and learning activities, and provides the main source for individual demand at KV Karnal. Library is meant to help academic community to keep abreast with the latest development in their area of activities and to provide information support for regular study and academic activities. At the same time for students, library is a source to get information support for their course curriculum as well as for their self-development. A well-stocked full automated library equipped with latest books and magazines on fiction, non –fiction, science & commerce stream related area.

The Library & Resource Center of Kendriya Vidyalaya Karnal is a spacious and beautiful with a wealth of offers for those who seek information. The Library & Resource Centre is a part of the Vidyalaya and offers access to Books, Periodicals, & the internet with the automation software e-Granthalaya 3.0 powered by NIC New Delhi. The library is open to all working hours of the Vidyalaya and this gives students a rich opportunity to pursue their studies at any hour. This flexibility is often needed when trying to juggle a busy life of studying and maintaining a social life as well. The School Library of Kendriya Vidyalaya Karnal caters to the information needs of 1020 students Primary:(446);Secondary(574) and 32 staff members of the Vidyalaya. With a collection of 6421 judiciously selected books,12 periodicals, 04 daily Newspapers. The School Library is fully automated and it is managed by Mrs. Monika, Librarian.

Library Activities

Ø Book Review Writing Competition: Book Review writing Competition is being organized by the Readers Club.

Ø Career & Counseling: - Career counseling is a regular feature in the library activities.

 Ø Book Exhibition: A Book Exhibition is being organized in the library on different occasions.

 Ø Best Reader Award and certificate:- Two students one each from secondary and one from senior secondary are selected on the basis of number of books read and overall utilization of library resources and were awarded best reader award and certificate.

 Ø Quiz Competition: - Various Quiz competitions to include subject based quiz competitions for classes VI to XII were organized from time to time as a part of Reader’s club Activity and participation of the students is appreciated by one and all.

Library Areas: -

Circulation Area - This is place where books and other library materials are loaned out. The library is available for readers use.

 Reference Section- It houses up-dated reference resources like encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, yearbooks, atlases, directories, etc.

Reading Area - It houses the general collection of books (books on generalities to history and biographies). Issues of children's journals and periodicals can also be found here.

Fiction Book Section - Books written by Drama, Novel, Poem, Prose, Short Story and Humor & satire authors.

 Non-Fiction Section - Home reading books are found here. A comfortable reading area is also provided here.

Periodicals Area - Back issues of periodicals for children are shelved here.

Technical Services - This is a working area where books are technically processed: collating, stamping, accessioning, classifying and cataloging.

LIBRARY SERVICE HOURS: - The library is open on all Vidyalaya working days from 7.30 A.M. to 1.40 P.M.

LIBRARY OVERDUE FINES:- There is no provision of fine from the students. However timely return of the books will be ensured by the users. After two reminders, if a user fails to return the book, action will be taken to recover the present cost of the book.

Reading Promotion Week -(August,October)

Report on Reading Promotion Week -I Competitions

Reading Promotion week competitions of the month of August were conducted for the students  classes I-VIII under different categories .The young learners indulged in different competitions all revolving around books .The purpose is to promote the literacy skills among the students. The  Reading Promotion week included an array of literacy activities specially curated for students which gave them an opportunity to learn and enjoy the company of books and authors.

INFORMATION LITERACY DAY (8TH SEPTEMBER)

 International Literacy Day is an international observance, celebrated each year on 8 September, UNESCO declared that on 26 October 1966 at the 14th session of UNESCO's General Conference. It was celebrated for the first time in 1967.

THEME: The theme for International Literacy Day 2024 is "Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace

Why it is celebrated?

Since 1967,the annual celebrations of ILD have taken place on 8th September around the world to remind policy makers, practitioners of the critical importance of literacy for creating more literate, just peaceful and sustainable society. In this regard a lecture was delivered  to the students to tell students about the importance of literacy .The aim is to aware and educate the students about the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights. They were educate how they can bring the positive changes to the society with the weapon of literacy.




Exhibition of Hindi books under Hindi Pakhwada

Book Exhibition is a book fair and a special occasion for the lovers of books .Variety of books are exhibited o that day for the readers to know about the various sources of information available in the library.Library plays a great role in encouraging people to inculcate the reading habit in them.
in this regard Hindi book exhibition was organised in PM Shri KV Karnal Library .The noble objective of this was to make students aware of the collection of variety of books available in our library.

Independence Day Celebration (15 August 2024)

 India celebrated its 78th Independence Day on 15 August 2024, to mark its freedom from British rule. In this regard to develop the feelings of patriotism PM Shri KV Karnal organised several events on this day. The events include flag hoisting,singing,dancing,giving speeches and many other things to aware young minds about the importance of this day.
